FRENCH PRESS MADE SIMPLE

The French press is the most commonly used form of hand-pressed coffee brewing and loved around the world for its simplicity. THE METHOD: A cylindrical pot with a screen plunger that presses hot water through the grinds. THE SECRET: It’s all in the grind. Medium, coarsely ground beans are the perfect texture to create a sweet, richly tasting cup of coffee. THE RESULT: A smooth, flavourful cup.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • French Press
  • Gooseneck Kettle
  • Kitchen Scale
  • 30g Coarsely Ground Coffee Beans

FRENCH PRESS MADE SIMPLE

  1. Place French press on scale and tare to 0
  2. Add 30g of coarsely ground coffee beans to French press
  3. Using the gooseneck kettle, add 60g of hot water to ground coffee (double the amount of water to the coffee grounds a 1:2 ratio is ideal)
  4. Stir gently with a bamboo stirrer
  5. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30 seconds
  6. Add the rest of the 350g of water
  7. Gently place the plunger onto the flask and allow coffee to steep for 4 minutes before plunging
  8. Using 15-20 pounds of pressure, plunge the filter slowly
  9. Remove French press from scale
  10. Serve immediately to prevent further brewing
