FRENCH PRESS MADE SIMPLE
The French press is the most commonly used form of hand-pressed coffee brewing and loved around the world for its simplicity. THE METHOD: A cylindrical pot with a screen plunger that presses hot water through the grinds. THE SECRET: It’s all in the grind. Medium, coarsely ground beans are the perfect texture to create a sweet, richly tasting cup of coffee. THE RESULT: A smooth, flavourful cup.
WHAT YOU NEED
- French Press
- Gooseneck Kettle
- Kitchen Scale
- 30g Coarsely Ground Coffee Beans
FRENCH PRESS MADE SIMPLE
- Place French press on scale and tare to 0
- Add 30g of coarsely ground coffee beans to French press
- Using the gooseneck kettle, add 60g of hot water to ground coffee (double the amount of water to the coffee grounds a 1:2 ratio is ideal)
- Stir gently with a bamboo stirrer
- Allow the coffee to bloom for 30 seconds
- Add the rest of the 350g of water
- Gently place the plunger onto the flask and allow coffee to steep for 4 minutes before plunging
- Using 15-20 pounds of pressure, plunge the filter slowly
- Remove French press from scale
- Serve immediately to prevent further brewing
